Getting married in Georgia is a straightforward process, but it's important to understand the state's specific marriage requirements. Here is what you need to know before your big day:

Marriage License Requirement: You must obtain a marriage license in Georgia before your ceremony can take place. The officiant will sign it after the ceremony.

County Probate Court Issuance: Marriage licenses are issued by the probate court in any Georgia county. If neither applicant is a resident of Georgia, the license must be obtained in the county where the ceremony is to be performed.

No Waiting Period: Unlike some states, Georgia has no waiting period for issuing a marriage license. You can get married the exact same day you receive your license!

Witnesses Not Required: Georgia law does not require witnesses to be present or to sign the marriage license. Only the signature of the officiant is legally required.
